Navionics Charts for SA Inland Waters
2014 Oct 02
If you have recently bought a Navionics chip that used to only cover our coastal waters, Gariep and the Vaal dam Platinum+), you will be pleased to know that you can sign up for ‘Freshest Data’ on-line and get updates for not only coastal, but inland waters as well.
Before today, should you leave your coastal waters and venture inland, your Navionics charts would simply show a polygon barely resembling a local dam, if anything at all, other than Gariep and the Vaal Dam.
Today however I am pleased to inform you that that has changed, and by simply updating your App and / or Navionics chip (memory card) you will find not only a detailed outline of most of our inland waters, but contours as well on those dams that have recorded logs, known as Navionics SonarCharts™. In the not too distant future, Navionics will be updating their inland charts with the same data as the Garmin Waterways2009 and Lowrance SA Inland Waters data.
If you don't have one of these charts, and you use both inland and coastal waters off South Africa, you might want to get yourself one from your local dealer. Keep in mind that you will have to go on to the Navionics website and update your card at a cost of €99.
Your other choice is to just get the full 3D top of the line package, Navionics Platinum+ which comes with one year FREE Freshest Data and SonarCharts updates worth €99
The Boating App is also available for both smartphone and tablet from your App Store-
