Structure vs Cover

What is a Structure Chart?

Structure charts, more commonly known as contour charts, are representative of the underwater topography of a body of water.  The primary points of interest on a structure/contour chart are channels, points creeks, humps, ledges, swings and saddles, etc.

What is an HD Cover Chart?

Cover is best described as the habitat of a body of water which is found on the structure.

Ultra-High Frequency sidescan sonar is by far the number one tool for identifying cover such as weed lines, rock piles, brush piles, timber, bottom composite transitions, sunken boats and old manmade objects such as roads, bridges, foundations, etc. in the sub 45ft depth range.

The downside to traditional sidescan is that it’s a live scrolling tool and often results in thousands of waypoints being created over time that simply become ‘clutter’ on your chart.

A professionally built sidescan mosaic changes all of this because it records everything and anything in the sub-45 ft depth range on a body of water.  This is what is known as an HD Cover Chart.

Benefits of an HD Cover Chart:

An HD Fishing Chart is the number one tool when it comes to planning a fishing trip, all in the comfort of your home, whether on your local dam or a body of water you have never fished before, even halfway around the world.

Driving around for hours idling with a large high-performance motor not only burns up fuel and valuable fishing time, but it is also really bad for the motor and the environment.

Tournament anglers rely heavily on tools such as the Mega 360 and Forward Facing live sonar, but often conditions get too rough for the technology.  The HD Cover Charts, on the other hand, are not affected by weather or water conditions.

Once arriving at a pre-identified location, an HD Cover Chart will also offer valuable clues on the best possible boat position to spot lock on, thus increasing the strike zone for your lure.

The Holy Grail of HD Cover Charts is Pattern Replication.

Once a pattern is identified and that spot starts to slow down, there is no need to spend hours looking for a similar spot.  Just a few minutes of sitting behind your fish finder marking similar spots will put any angler worth his salt back on the fish in no time.
